Thirteen Famous People who were Cat Lovers!!

1 . Sir Isaac Newton, who was first to describe the principle of gravity, invented the cat flap for the convenience of his many cats.
2 . Winston Churchill adored cats. His cat was named "Jock" and was referred to as Churchill's special assistant.
3 . Abraham Lincoln loved cats and while he was president, four of them lived in the White House with him. His cat Tabby, was the first cat to live there.
4 . Ernest Hemingway once had some 30 cats at his home in Havana.
5 . Florence Nightingale owned more than 60 cats in her lifetime.
6 . The first person to own a Siamese in the United States, was the wife of Rutherford Hayes, Lucy Webb Hayes.
7 . Grimalkin, was the name of the cat of the French Astrologer, Nostradamus.
8 . Mark Twain aka Samuel Clemens is quoted as saying, "If a man could be crossed with a cat, it would improve the man but deteriorate the cat."
9 . Edward Lear, (1812-1888) a famous artist and author, was devoted to his tabby cat, Foss.
10 . Sir Walter Scott,(1771-1832) a poet and novelist, had a tabby named Hinx.
11 . Michel de Montaigne, a French author, is quoted as sting "When I play with my cat, who knows whether she is not amusing herself with me more than I with her?"
12 . Charles Dickens's, had a cat named Willamina. One of her kittens became known as "Master's Cat" and kept him company as he wrote.
13 . Edgar Allen Poe's tortoiseshell cat "Catarina" was the inspiration for his story, "The Black Cat".

What a grate TT, those beans were furry smart to have cats in der lives. We weren't around yesterday (thanks mom) but we noticed dat yoor feeder was empty, we hope dat duzzent happen a lot!

Those are some wonderful facts! I love that winston churchill had a cat he loved, that is great. You know, there was a cat called hunphrey who lived in 10 downing street until the blairs moved in - cherie blair didn't like him so she got rid of him. He must have been a conservative! xx

Funny... Sir Isaac Newton was mentioned at our dinner table tonight because one of those little boys who lives here sometimes is writing a report about Sir Isaac Newton. I shall tell him about his affinity for cats and maybe he'll include that in his report!

Samuel Johnson had a cat named Hodge. Dr. Johnson used to buy oysters for Hodge, rather than have a servant do so. He was afraid the servant would resent Hodge and consequently mistreat him/her. History doesn't tell us Hodge's gender.
Isaac Newton's cat, Diamond, knocked a candle over, starting a fire which destroyed the 'Principia'. Newton had to rewrite it from scratch.
