UPDATE: The Vet says Clemmie has Feline Asthma!! He has given her an antibiotic and some Liquid Prednisolone! Clemmie didn't take the medicine so good!! Mom hopes it gets easier! Does anyone have any helpful information about Feline Asthma and how to get her to take the pills easier!! The liquid was fairly easy to get down, but the pills have to be given with 5 ml of water, so the pill doesn't get stuck in her throat and cause burns!!
Thanks for the purrrrs!

We are sorry to hear that Clemmie has feline asthma. Hannah was diagnosed with feline asthma after having had a cough for quite a time and having been told it was a fur ball which I knew was not the case. In the end after months of continual vet visits they booked her in for xrays. This showed that she had asthma and she was sent home with 2 weeks antibiotics and 3 weeks of steroids. I took her back after a week as requested and the vet agreed with me that she was much improved. The steroids were weaned off gradually over a number of weeks.
I found when the steroids had stopped tally toshe was coughing again and I phoned the vet who said the asthma was possibly aggravated by the weather and she has given me steroids to give her on an if required basis and fortunately that has worked but I don't know how she'll be with the winter cold weather.
I dont have a problem giving her the steroids - the one she has I squash down with the back of a spoon and mix it with something tasty and she has eaten every one (up to now anyway). If you want to know any more I'll help you if I can.

Oh gosh, we're sorry to hear that Clementine has asthma. Our mom has never had to deal with that, so we can't offer advice, only sympathy and purrs. :(
Sending purrs to Clementine. We've never dealt with feline asthma, so will be interested to see what kinds of advice you get too. I love how we can all learn from others blogs.
Hello....Thank you for visiting my THANKFUL FUR 3 THURSDAY BLOG HOP at http://theteacherspets.blogspot.com and I hope you've met a lot of new friends through the hop! I am going to follow you via an RSS reader b/c I can't seem to make the Google Friend Connect button work today! Please follow my blog if you have a chance.
As far as pill taking goes, I recommend you buy a package of PILL POCKETS and then insert the pill inside and *voila* you'll find that Clementine will take her pills. The pill pockets come in different flavors and they are made by GREENIES, I think. Hope this info helps!
oh noes, we's sorry that Clemmie has asthma!! purrrrrrssssssssss to you sweet girl!
We're so sorry Clemmie has asthma, but at least it is treatable. We don't know much about it, but we hope someone in the CB can help you out. We agree with the comments about pill pockets. If you wrap that pill up in a pill pocket, you don't hafta worry about giving Clemmie the water. Mom gives Zoey her pill in a pill pocket and she gobbles it right up.
Good luck to Clemmie. We hope she's feelng better soon.
Hope Clemmie is feeling better soon.. I so love the funnis.. Billiant.. Hugs GJ xx
The only way I take pills is if they are rolled up in a ball of cheese. My Abbey takes a lot of care that the pill is in the middle and a good cover of cheese right the way around it.
We are sorry that Clemmi has asthma! Mom knows nothing about Feline asthma, just people asthma! Our vet thinks Kirby might have allergies but Mom wonders it it is asthma. He does not cough, but sometimes when he breaths he makes a noise, almost like Mom's wheezing.
We are purring for Clementine !!!!!
Hi...
Some things you can try for the pills are definitely the pill pockets... If she doesn't like it, which is the case here, I just mash a Purina Whisker Lickin's treat and wrap the pill with it - my kitties love that treat.
I have to give daily meds to Bugsy for life, and I would be nobody without my cat bag. I HIGHLY recommend the Klaw Kontrol bag - it has changed my life! If the treats dont work and you have to pill her, something to think about it...
Tools of the trade: Gel Caps will prevent the pill from burning the trachea/throat - you get them online or from health food store. Mine are from NOW foods, #3. You just open them up, put the pill inside, close and pill the kitty. You can also get the same effect by wrapping the pill w/pill pockets (just a little) and pilling the kitty with it (even if she doesn't eat as a treat, you pill her by putting on the back of the throat). That works great to disguise bitter tasting meds.
A good pill popper will save you time, stress and probably some fingers too!
And the cat bag..... can't recommend enough!
Goodluck... Hope she feels better soon!!
My sister Gracie has asthma too, here are two websites you will want to check out:
Feline Asthma
Feline Asthma with Fritz the Brave
We finally got her off of the Prednisolone and we have an inhaler for her.
The Prednisolone might cause some weight gain and other side effects. Gracie is pretty much under control now and only has an episode every 7-10 days maybe. Allergies aggravate it so things like open windows don't help. We also got 2 air cleaners to filter out allergans.
I'm getting ready to turn in but will be glad to discuss it with you. My email is brianfrum at gmail dot com.
Asthma can be controlled, just like with humans. Purrs to your sweetie.
Sending purrrrss to Clementine. We're hoping you can control her asthma without too many problems.
If you can't get the medication into her any other way, check with your V*T about trans-dermal application. You will likely need a compounding pharmacy, but this way, you just rub a gell onto Clemmie's ears and it adsorbs through her skin. Kinda messy, but much easier for all concerned.
